We sponsor and manage Autonomous System Numbers and IP address allocations on behalf of organisations across the UK and Europe — handling the registration, compliance, and ongoing management so you can focus on running your network.
Whether you need a new ASN, a block of IPv6 space, or want to transfer existing resources from another provider, our experienced team will guide you through the process from start to finish.

Common questions
Answers to the questions we hear most often about RIPE NCC resource registration and sponsorship.
01 What is a Local Internet Registry (LIR)?
A Local Internet Registry is an organisation that has been allocated a block of IP address space by a Regional Internet Registry (such as RIPE NCC) and assigns parts of that space to its customers. As a RIPE NCC member LIR, Inferno Communications can register ASNs and IP resources on your behalf.
02 Do I need my own ASN?
You need an Autonomous System Number if you plan to run BGP with multiple upstream providers or peers, or if you require provider-independent routing for your network. If you only have a single upstream provider, you may not need your own ASN — our team can advise based on your specific setup.
03 What is the difference between PA and PI address space?
Provider-aggregatable (PA) space is allocated through your LIR and is portable between upstreams but tied to your sponsoring LIR. Provider-independent (PI) space is assigned directly to your organisation and can be announced independently of any provider, giving you full portability. PI space carries a higher annual fee to reflect the additional overhead at RIPE NCC.
04 How long does ASN registration take?
Once we have all the required information and documentation, most ASN registrations are completed within 2–5 working days. Transfer requests from another LIR may take slightly longer depending on the co-operation of the existing sponsor.
05 What is RPKI and do I need it?
Resource Public Key Infrastructure (RPKI) lets you cryptographically sign your route announcements using Route Origin Authorisations (ROAs), making it much harder for other networks to hijack your prefixes. We strongly recommend RPKI for all customers and include ROA setup and maintenance as part of our sponsorship service.
06 Can I transfer my existing resources to Inferno?
Yes. We handle inbound transfers of ASNs and IP prefixes from other LIRs or end-user sponsors. The process involves updating the RIPE database and coordinating with your current sponsor, and we manage this end-to-end with minimal disruption to your routing.
